am
i crazy or way off? i dont know but i swear that this song is about
that soccer team that crashed in south america that they made that
movie alive about. why? because one guy is telling someone else
that this person is dead and its sad in all, but we cant let him
go to waste. so take your knives out and lets eat him because we
cant afford to sit here and cry because we are gonna die if we dont
eat. that what it sounds like to me anyway.

Perhaps this is sort of a commentary on the omnivorous diet... about
how is is hypocritical for eating each other to be so offensive while
eating the muscles, etc. of animals is perfectly fine and justified
for that matter. |

To me, this song is about holding on to your dignity. The lyrics address
someone who refuses to fend for himself/herself in this
"go, conquer, kill, steal" world. The "he" mentioned
in the song represents morality. The fact that "he" is gone,
represents the idea of responsibility/morality as being gone from
the situation. the lyrics say "if you were a dog, they would
have drowned you at birth" as if to suggest "you dont owe
anyone anything, everyone else is taking advantage of things, (eg
"catch the mouse, shove it in your mouth.") you yourself
could have been the one sacrificed." the person addressed refuses
to submit to scrounging around, losing their values, lowering their
standards, and so the song eggs on "So knives out/
Catch the mouse/
don't look down/
shove it in your mouth/
look into my eyes/
it's the only way you'll know im telling the truth ."
The funny thing is, i think thom isnt writing this song from his personal
thoughts as much as he is from some other person's. I dont think thom
agrees that the lack of morality in the world justifies people taking
advantage of what they can. thats why i think he uses such revolting
imagery in the song as well. |
