I
have a interpretation for Lucky. I thinkl that this song talks about
death, and the thing related to it...... my proofs are:
I
feel my luck could change ( I may die???)
Kill me Sarah..Kill me again ( Need explications ? )
Pull me out of the air crash ( generaly you don't survive )
Pull me out of the lake ( when you're drowning..and diying )
The head of state ( god ) has called for me by name
We are standing on the edge ( near death )
I'm your superhero ( the one that saves you from death )
so..that's it.....

I
like to think Lucky is a Love Song. The chorus is about the
initial feeling of falling in love with someone. Being in
an aircrash
or pulled out of the lake would seem to be negative connotations,
but I think they are powerful metaphors for True Eros. Standing
on the edge is like looking over the cliff before you fall; again,
that feeling like you're about to fall and fall hard for someone.
I'm on a roll, my luck could change, kill me with love, a glorious
day. When you meet someone you like, these are like the thoughts
you have as you roll out of bed. On those occasions when I've
been Lucky enough, this is how I've felt.
The head of state could be anyone you must answer to in your static
daily dealings--boss, parent, God, and the like. But when
you're someone's Superhero (and they are yours), these things seem
to lose the importance and authority they once held. I don't have
time for him.
I'm
fortunate to be Lucky right now. Two weeks ago, I would have said
this song was very sarcastic in it's implications. And it's all
right.

ok,
this is one of the only songs that im fairly confident that i know
what its on about. still not that sure though, but on a live demo
.vqf of the song ive heard, thom says before the start something
about it being indicative of the interest in james bond recently.
lucky to me is about heroes such as james bond who seem to be constantly
being called up by the government for a mission, surviving aircrashes,
then standing on the edge of a cliff feeling all lucky, waiting
for the next challenge to survive. and then all the lyrics sorta
fall into place okay, thats all

i
don't know, i think Lucky is a very frustrated, desperate song.
the narrator is begging for someone to save him, or to be needed
by someone (pull me out..i'm your superhero..), and he's rejecting
all the bullshit responsibility and pressure of modern business
corporate life (the head of state...i don't have time for him).
but he knows its not coming easy, and when Thom sings "It's gonna
be..a glorius day, i feel my luck could change, its got this sad,
pleading quality to it, he needs to be saved and redeemed by someone.
i get very sad when i here this song, because i know the feeling
of thinking that love is all that can make life not seem like a
burden, y'know?

In
my ever humble opinion, "Lucky" is about feeling disenfranchised
& out of place in the "real world". It's a song about needing something
that this life can't give you. It's almost a suicide note. When
he sings "I feel my luck will change", it's like he's saying "Good
Bye, Cruel World! I don't need to put up with your Bull Shit, anymore!".
That and "Kill me Sarah" is just kinda self-explanitory.
I'm
not saying this is what the song is about. During the chorus, when
he says "I'm your superhero", it's like he's found something to
live for again, & "We are standing on the edge" is like realising
that there is more to live for.

Although
there are some James Bondian themes in "Lucky," I think that the
gist of the song is based on a certain sense of impotence in the
face of danger, that the narrator constantly seeks to convince himself
and others that he is the alpha male, a protector, a "superhero"
with the ability to conquer everything in his path. However, he
then drops into the refrain "Pull me out of the aircrash / Pull
me out of the lake" - despite his desire to be meaningful and heroic,
he finds himself unable to function without help. Although he is
attempting to convince the listener of his significance ("The head
of state has called for me by name"), he actually has no say in
his role - by stating "but I don't have time for him," he seems
to cover up his inability to conquer. "Lucky" seems to be about
dreaming big, about wishing that one could be a James Bond superhero,
but secretly knowing that in the end, he is helpless.

Ok, Lucky is the song I heard when I was sorting mail (my old job)
and very depressed after a big break up. A week or two later I met
a beautiful girl called Sarah and it all made sense! Suddenly I was
on a roll. Life was worth living - my luck had changed. I wanted to
be completely and utterly blown away with love (Kill me Sarah, Kill
me again, with love). And I was,... but as always, it doesn't last,
and later I would risk trying to get back together, only to be hurt
over again (Kill me again!) The Chorus represents the girl (Sarah)
saving the guy (me) from the misery and depression, making him feel
for a little while like life is worth living. And the contrast is
so great compared to the previous depression that he feels like a
'super hero' on a 'glorious day'. Not having time for the head of
state - means you are so caught up in this 'glorious love affair'
that you don't have time nor care for anything else (a glorious state
of affairs!) Standing on the edge obviously means that all g'lorious
days' must eventually end, and usually they end with a vast fall.
(prophesy fulfilled, killed by Sarah's love) |

"I'm on a roll
I'm on a roll this time
I feel my luck could change"
you have finally found someone...a person who you love and who loves
you back. you can be yourselves around eachother...don't have to put
on any acts. opposites attract? literally, male and female, yes...but
from my experiences...having enormous amounts of stuff in common creates
the true love.
"Kill me Sarah
kill me again with love
it's gonna be a glorious day."
first, replace Sarah with the one you love. and when you know what
its like to be "killed" by love, then all days are glorious. the song
is just spitting the truth.
"Pull me out of the aircrash,
pull me out of the lake,
I'm your superhero,
we are standing on the edge"
you get pulled out of that "aircrash and the lake" (a down time in
your life) when you meet a person who can "kill you with love." "I'm
your superhero means"... I am the one for you, and I want to be your
hero. I'll do anything to make you feel good. "We are standing on
the edge" could just mean head over heels in love...and you need eachother
to prevent falling over the edge again (into the gutters of life).
the rest of the song repeats this pretty much. All I see it as is
a simple song about being pulled out of a gutter in your life, and
getting "lucky" by finding someone who you can truly love. |

One of the most ironic/sarcastic songs of the album, the guy is just
sick and tired of life... he just wants to die, but since it's our
destiny to get screwed over and over till God decides he had enough
fun, it just ain't gonna happen. "i'm on a roll, i fell my luck could
change", this is something as when you have a horrible day, you crash
your car, you lose a friend, your stereo breaks, your neighbor's cat
spill your trash all over your front yard.... So "It's gonna be a
glorious day", this is for no means a optimistic message... it's just
sarcasm, just like the days when you wake at 6 am to go to work, you're
tired, your head hurts, you know that there's no one out there who
cares about you, you know you're gonna have some bad time today...
so... "what a glorious day awaits me out there...."
The other parts about pulling him out of the aircrash and lake are
just a plead for help, like "come on... my life just won't work! i
called the tech support but they wont return my calls, somebody, for
the love of God... help me out here..."
The "super hero" remark is also just a sarcastic thing, i know i'm
a loser, i know i'm helpless... i'm just so good i'm like a super
hero*sarcasm* |

Lucky is A LOVE STORY (as is written on the plane artwork in OK Computer).
It's about how everyone - even a superhero - needs that special someone
in their life and how you must make time for them. Not even the President
(the head of state) can take that someone away from you - they make
you feel secure, loved, lucky. |

i agree with many of the interpretations on this one... yes, much
sarcasm. i see it as living one life with a false front, pretending
and wanting to be a superhero, whatever it takes to find her love,
but knowing that he's drowning in that existence. "kill me sarah...with
love" would be killing this life, allowing him to be lucky, to live
the better life with love. "killing" is just moving from one life
to the next. |

In June, my best friend, as well as the one I loved, died. This changed
a lot of what I interpreted out of music, and particularly, certain
songs from Radiohead's album "OK Computer". The most significant intepretation
was that of the song "Lucky":
The song is about a young man who fell in love with his best friend,
who died in plan crash in Canada(the plain plummeted into a large
lake, killing everyone, including this particular girl, whose name
was Sarah). The protagonist goes into a deep depression, and wants
only to be reunited with his love after this awful string of bad luck.
He decides that he's going to kill himself. And he starts ranting
while he's on the edge of this tall bulding... Frantically shouting
out his feelings before he takes the plunge. About how everything
will change.. He says "Kill me Sarah- kill me again, with love"...
Meaning, to make his death painless with their intense emotion. He
awaits this time of his death and proclaims that this is "gonna be
a glorious day". Then he breaks down and starts thinking about how
she felt as she plunged into the lake, about how he was supposed to
be there for her, about how he was her superhero... Then he begins
to think about what's after, and how he doesn't have time to see God,
but rather, he wants to bypass all of the formalities and find his
love. Once again, as he prepares to crash, in a kind of apology, he
screams out the feelings Sarah might have felt. We never know whether
or not he jumps off, but that's not the point..... it's about how
and what this man feels. Anyway, that's how I intepreted the song.

this is blatantly a love song. the person in the song thinks that
the person they love is going to change their life, for the better(i
feel my look could change). basically, they are saving him/her from
what he/she would become(pull me out of the aircrash..etc), and he/she
can do the same for the person they love(cos im your superhero). they
are 'standing on the edge' of a new life together, and now i have
made the song sound really tacky, which it is not, so i'll shut up

this song is definately a love song
"i'm on a roll...this time...i feel my luck could change"
this line in the song is talking about the gamble we take with love..
a smart player knows when they are on a roll...and when their luck
just couldn't get any better....so they choose to 'hold' or 'stay'
with what they've got before their luck changes
"kill me sarah...kill me again with love...it's gonna be a gloriuos
day"
falling in love is like dying...and then coming back into the world
refreshed and with a different perspective...what a glorious day that
is
"pull me out of the aircrash...pull me out of the lake...'cause i'm
your superhero....we are standing on the egde"
he is telling his love to pull him from the depths of lonliness...he
knows he's her hero...but she is also his..she must save him before
he can save her...and they are both standing on the edge....ready
to fall first....or jump to follow
"the head of state has called for me by name...but i don't have time
for him"
this states that love is the single most important thing in life...and
nobody...not even god...or the president...or whoever is in charge....can't
divert someone's attention from their love |

i think this song's about love&death...
i don't wanna xplain all the lines...
you know when you're deeply in love you fell like you're standing
on the edge..
sometimes you wanna die...
you want him/her to survive you out of a an aircrash...
u wanna be the superhero...the only one for him/her! but when i listen
to it i can feel the pessimistic and...ermmm...dark mood. that's why
i think it's also about death. |

I always beleive Lucky was about... optimism, and hope... a feeling
of euphoria. I feel a rising tide of it as I listen...
I
think the lyrics explain it to me - pull me out of the aircrash
- it's gonna be a glorious day... not having time for the head of
state... (which I think is a generic and derogatory name for modern
national leaders)... I feel my luck could change... The idea of
standing on the edge of something...

I think lucky is about love too. I think its about how you feel when
you first fall in love with someone. Kinda like when you get out of
a messed up relationship and you don't there is amyone out there who
fits what you want in a person and then, BOOM!!!! You meet someone
and you feel like your luck could change. You feel invincible in a
way even while you feel real vulnerable. Pull me out of the aircrash,
pull me out of the lake, 'cause I'm your superhero... You know how
you don't really have anytime for anyone when you've fallen in love?
The head of state is calling but he can go screw himself 'cause there
isn't enough time in the day to see him and be with her..... I don't
know, Lucky is one of my faves on OKC. I always end up shouting the
words and drumming on the steering wheel when this song comes on.
It isn't a negative song its a feel good song and I always feel good
when I hear it. |

David, recently converted
I think that this song has shades of being a war orphans story. That
might seem blindingly obvious to everyone else, but i am a recently
converted Radiohead fan. The track was on the "Warchild" album for
Bosnia, and it could be a Bosnian kid/orphan who is hoping his "luck
will change". I think more evidence is given when Thom wails "pull
me out of the aircrash" like a kid wanting his mother to protect him
or her when faced with danger (I'm not sure, but the follow up lyric
sounds like "Because I'm your son or "I'm on your side" so again pleading
for help) . "Kill me Sarah" could be an reference to an euthanaisa
moment because the bosnians are dying. Even though its "a glorious
day" the humans are not interested, more interested in warmongering.
It's very much every man for themselves - "I feel my luck could change"
rather than a collective unit, and so the persona is quiter selfish,
but then again, when faced with desperate situations, some people
become self-involved |
